| Photodynamic Therapy |
| |
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is a highly selective process to kill bacteria as well as virus by means of a low power laser and a photosensitizer (photosensitising agent). In-vitro experiments achieve a reduction of nearly 100% depending on the concentration of the photosensitizer and the wavelength of the soft laser. The actual process is still uncertain, but it is proofed that PDT destroys the mitochondria. Photodynamic Therapy is successfully used in many different medical fields.
